The news was totally unexpected especially for the mother of Cynthia Perez, the teenager who was killed in an alleged street-racing crash. Despite the fact that the accident resulted to the death of a 16-year old teen, Judge Collins lowered Betancourt’s bail from $250,000 to $100,000.
“I’m disgusted. I’m hurt,” said Perez’s mother, Hilda Hinkle. “I want legal justice for my daughter.”
Following the death of Perez last June 24, 17-year old Jeremy Betancourt was arrested for aggravated street racing, reckless homicide and aggravated DUI. According to police report, the suspect was found positive in marijuana at the time of the incident.
