Grandfather Kills Five-year-old Grandson in DUI Crash

A 53-year-old grandfather has been charged with intoxication manslaughter after crashing into a pole and killing his five-year-old grandson Sunday night outside Seagoville road.

Tony Lynn Dickerson was driving in his pick-up truck at 8 p.m. near West Simonds and Bowers Roads in Seagoville with his grandson Josiah Dickerson when he attempted to make a U-turn, losing control of the vehicle and slamming into the pole. The boy was transported in Dallas Medical Center at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday and was pronounced dead.

Police officers who responded to the scene smelled alcohol on Dickerson’s breath, according to an arrest warrant. Dickerson told them he had six beers since 3 p.m. Officers conducted field sobriety tests and determined he was intoxicated.

If convicted, Dickerson could face 20 years in prison.

KVUE reports that court records show Dickerson pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in 1978 and to unlawfully carrying a weapon in 1983.
