Court of Criminal Appeal Turns Down Appeal to Prosecute Teenage Driver

The Court of Criminal Appeal turned down a mother’s appeal to prosecute a teenage driver alleged to have been driving under the influence of cannabis and killed her only daughter.

According to the witness, the little girl was crossing the road from a bus stop at Diswellstown Road when Mr. Byrne’s Nissan Pulsar drove by. Eleven year old Cait Quinn of Castleknock was struck by the car and later died.

Judge Gerard Griffin in the Circuit Civil Court said that Mr Byrne’s insurance company had offered €30,000 to cover some element of grief and loss, and funeral expenses.
